Summary
In this chapter, we took a closer look at how biometric technology is generating more and more of our personal data, which, if not monitored, can result in a violation of our privacy. We reviewed the concept of a privacy policy and then compared how Europe and the US view privacy, along with some of the laws that influence the way we protect consumer data.
Along with examining the many ways that we can use biometrics, we debated whether or not an individual can be forced to use their biometric data to unlock a device or computer system. We reviewed the Fifth Amendment of the US constitution and saw how this may be a way to protect ourselves from self-incrimination during a legal investigation.
In addition, we saw the need to provide interoperability among systems and the importance of providing standards. We reviewed standards in image processing, along with exchanging and securing biometric data. Finally, we took a look at the potential that biometric technologies can...
