Ensuring business continuity
In most cases, the networking team works hard to keep all systems operational and adhere to the rule of five-nines. The rule of five-nines means the network must be available 99.999 percent of the time, which allows for downtime of approximately 5 minutes. However, even in the best of circumstances, a system can fail or suffer from a cyberattack, and be down for more than 5 minutes.
Important note
Even if there isn’t a disaster, it’s important to ensure business continuity. For example, in a large-scale government biometric solutions, one best practice is to build discrete subsystems. The systems can be swapped out or upgraded without impacting other systems, or interrupting network production.
