Lab – Reconnaissance

Now that we have been introduced to footprinting and reconnaissance, we need to reinforce these concepts. The following lab covers several of the areas discussed in the chapter, including Google dorks, financial reports, and robots.txt.

You have been contracted by Home Depot for a reconnaissance and footprinting project. You have been asked to do the following operations and report back your findings for a larger report:

  1. Perform an nslookup of homedepot.com and record the IP addresses returned. Record your answer here.
  2. Do a WHOIS lookup for homedepot.com by the IP addresses returned in the previous question. Record your answer here.
  3. Perform the same operations as in question 2 using domaintools.com. Record your answer here.
  4. Compare the returned results from questions 2 and 3 and record the differences you find, if any.
