Chapter 11

  1. Markdown is a markup language that is most commonly used in README.md files in repositories on GitHub (and other version control platforms). The README.md file that is stored at the root of a repository is displayed on the main page of the repository. It is generally used to introduce other developers to that repository.
  2. The data folder is excluded from version control tasks by default. This is because this folder is likely to contain significantly large files that are unsuitable for a typical version control workflow with Git and GitHub. It is common practice to exclude data folders from Git and GitHub.
