Getting your Azure usage data
For the purpose of forecasting, we will need past and current usage data from Microsoft Azure. Apart from that, we will also need the budget, price sheet, and reservation usage details. There are many ways in which we can get this data from Azure:
- EA portal – Go to Reports, then select Monthly Report Download. You can then download Balance and Charges, Usage Detail, Marketplace Charges, and Price Sheet.
- Azure portal – Go to Cost Management and select Usage + Charges. You can download all charges (usage and purchases) and an amortized charges report.
- Continuous export – Go to Cost Management and select Exports. You can specify a storage account and a container in which Azure will export the Usage and Charges CSV file. The data can be exported daily, weekly, monthly, or one time.
