Summary
Here is a recap of what we learned in this chapter. We looked at the on-demand nature of Azure. Remember Azure is a pay-as-you-consume model. If you don’t consume, you don’t pay. Then, we looked at how to develop KPIs for your business needs. We looked at five attributes of effective KPIs and went over three example KPIs that can be leveraged at your organization. Once you have KPIs developed, you want to create a baseline and start benchmarking teams against those KPIs and business metrics. The scorecard report will be used to encourage competition between teams to achieve the desired results. And finally, we created a budget using the Azure cost analysis tool and set up a cost anomaly alert for the FinOps team to keep an eye on changes in the cloud environment.
In the next chapter, we will explore various ways to forecast future spend and demonstrate how Finance and Procurement can incorporate this forecasting in their business reporting.
