Preface
Often, when a new technology emerges, it is touted as the most important technology to come along. Cloud computing is no exception. It may not be the most important technological innovation to come along, but few people will disagree that it is an important step in the evolution of computing. More than a breakthrough by itself, it builds on other technologies such as virtualization, the internet, redundant storage, and so on. Part of its magic is putting it all together.
Another key aspect of the cloud is the power and cost savings that come from allowing multiple users to share the same resources while keeping the environment and the users’ data secure.
The rate of adoption of cloud technologies keeps on accelerating and the question is no longer if cloud computing will be the dominant paradigm but rather how fast it will be adopted by companies of all sizes.
AWS is at the forefront of cloud adoption and is the undisputed leader. Enterprises are trusting their workloads to AWS because of its scalability, reliability, flexibility, and breadth of service offerings.
In this book, we will do a deep dive into the most important services available in AWS and many of their features. We will also assist you in deciding when to use one service over another, as well as recommended best practices when using a particular service. Finally, in the last chapter, we will put many of the technologies together and review a real-world use case.
