The Configuration Manager console


It seemed only right that we should give the Configuration Manager console a mention as, regardless of PowerShell, it is still the most widely used method of accessing the product. There is a little bit of troubleshooting we can do for the console itself, but further than this we can use the console to troubleshoot other aspects of our Configuration Manager site at a deeper level.

Troubleshooting the console

Some people may not realize that the Configuration Manager console is a 32 bit application; therefore, we won't find it in the same place as our site installation when we are looking for log files. The default installation location for your console is in the Program Files (x86) folder:

  • 64 bit OS: %ProgramFiles(X86)%\Microsoft Configuration Manager\AdminConsole.

  • 32 bit OS: %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Configuration Manager\AdminConsole.

In this folder, we will see the AdminUILog folder that contains the available log files for Configuration Manager:

  • AdminUI.ExtensionInstaller...
