Disciplined Agile is in the same category as the Scaled-Agile Framework (SAFe) in terms of its comprehensive scope and broader inclusion of Lean–Agile concepts. These Lean-Agile strategies are much more comprehensive in scope than the pure Scrum-based frameworks of Scrum of Scrums (SOS), Scrum@Scale, Nexus, and large-scale Scrum (LeSS). In some ways, with its expansive lists of Decision Points and techniques, DA is a broader and more comprehensive approach to implementing Lean–Agile practices than SAFe. Still, on the other hand, their emphasis is different.
Both DA and SAFe extend the empiricism of Scrum with the application of systems thinking, Lean development, and business agility on an enterprise scale, not just limited to software and systems development.
