Introduction

Before I get too deep into the background of “Quantifiably Better”, I want to put one data point out on the table.

Up to this point, the total # of books I have written is zero (0).

When I decided to embark on this journey to write a professional book, I had a really strong game plan for how I was going to do it. Write 2,000 words a day. No more than 10 chapters, as it needs to be consumable. Be done in a few weeks. I had a good outline, and I have tons of experience as a public speaker and blogger, so I felt I would do pretty well at this exercise. I knew the style of writing I wanted to use would apply to my target audience of HR leaders. Everything was lined up and ready to go.

The first day, I wrote almost 2,500 words, and I felt great. The next day, I read what I had written the previous day, and I became worried very quickly. It wasn’t very good. I went back and re-wrote most of the chapter, and I repeated the exercise of rereading what...
