Understanding workgroup protection
This recipe will cover the information you need to understand both the prerequisites and also help you understand what could be expected from the workgroup protection approach for System Center Data Protection Manager 2012 R2.
Getting ready
Before you start to provide a restore scenario for your workgroup servers, you must understand the supported scenarios where you can use the workgroup protection.
Compared to the normal protection provided by DPM for domain joined servers, you will, for example, not able to protect clustered servers.
The workgroup server could also be a member of another domain that you don't trust. CBA is not a prerequisite for workgroup protection.
The following list can be protected via workgroup protection:
- Files
- System States
- SQL Server
- Hyper-V
- Primary DPM server via a secondary DPM server (DPM-DPM-DR)
