Solving conversion issues
When creating standard Sheet Metal models starting from a Base Flange it is generally quite difficult to create new flanges that have flattening issues, because SolidWorks will often automatically trim away problem areas. However, sometimes when converting models to Sheet Metal these flattening issues can occur inadvertently. We can force SolidWorks to create one of these issues, as an example of how to avoid it:
- Continuing from the previous section, edit the Convert Solid feature again, so that we are back in the tool's Property Manager.
- Change the Fixed Face from the small underside face to the large side face (Figure 12.26). Then remove any existing Bend Edges (this will automatically remove any Rip Edges, if it does not then delete these manually) and just add the three Bend Edges shown.
- Press OK to update the feature.
