Step 3 – Implementation


When it comes to time, strategic planning is one very long meeting. So let's recap where we are so far…

  • We've logistically planned the meeting, found the facilitator, and secured the location

  • The participants have been invited and worked on their assignments

  • The group has reviewed (or created) the mission, vision, and values

  • The group has conducted a SWOT analysis of the organization

Have multiple meetings

If you decide to conduct your meetings on-site, one approach might be to break the strategic planning meeting into smaller parts. This gives participants time to process the information in between meetings. A common separation might be to conduct the MVV session as one meeting, then the SWOT analysis, and finally the strategy plans.

A lot of work has been done. But there's still a lot to do. Now it's time to develop the strategic plan itself. I know you might be saying to yourself, "Is all this prework really necessary?" And the answer is "yes". Emphatically...
