Summary

Performance meetings are an essential part of business. They let people know we're paying attention and we value their work. The way we conduct the meeting not only gives people specific feedback about their performance but it tells them how much we care about their success.

While I referenced the meetings in this chapter, in terms of managers and employees, these scenarios could have easily been between the president of a nonprofit board and one of their volunteers. The same principles apply and the same outcomes are desired.

In the next chapter, we're going to talk about another kind of feedback meeting: focus groups. Focus groups are interesting because they can be used to collect feedback both internally as well as externally. Let's see how we can make focus group meetings more effective.
