What is API distribution?

API product distribution is the process of making your API available to consumers in the easiest possible way for them. One key factor of API product distribution is understanding the tools consumers use and making your API available to them on those tools. Doing that guarantees that consumers won’t have to change their existing workflows just to be able to use your API product. Successful companies understand that they need to make their products available where their customers are. A good example of a physical product that followed this approach is Coca-Cola. In its early days, the now-popular beverage was available in soda fountains at pharmacies. After all, in the beginning, they were selling a medicinal beverage. And where else should they be selling it other than pharmacies? Over time, Coca-Cola adapted its distribution model as the product itself evolved and became attractive to different types of customers.
