Lingua Franca for BPM — Business Objects
We explained Service Data Objects (SDO) in Chapter 3. So where can we place the overall need for business objects in the context of building business processes and also SOA? As you very well know, the core of the BPM approach is the business processes; be it system-to-system, inter or intra systems, or workflow and person-to-person process management. Business processes need a standardized and systematic language to communicate within and with other external processes or services. This lingua franca or the systematic language is Business Objects. These Business Objects represent the data that is produced, manipulated, and exchanged between activities within the business processes and transferred to external services or other business processes that the parent business process invokes.
Typically and more fundamentally, these business objects should be in a form that is understood by the business (it should not to be defined by technical folks!). Another...
