Introduction
VMware ThinApp is a component of the Horizon Suite that can be used to virtualize an application. ThinApp accomplishes this by capturing all the changes that occur when an application is installed, and then packaging the files and configuration data into a self-contained package. This process is described in more detail in the Capturing an application with ThinApp recipe found in this chapter. The following are some of the advantages we can realize using ThinApp to package and deliver applications:
- Applications packaged using ThinApp run within their own virtualization layer, eliminating the possibility of conflict with other applications as well as the host operating system.
- By deploying applications using ThinApp rather than installing them on the virtual desktop master image, we can reduce the size of that image. Additionally, we can now maintain these applications independently of the master image.
- Using ThinApp, our users can use different versions of the same application...
