Understanding the Pressures CIOs and CISOs Face
It goes without saying that the roles of the CIO and CISO are not easy. These are high-pressure jobs that are handsomely rewarded. There have been significant shifts in the requirements for the role over the years.
The reality is that the job description for these roles is not a true reflection of the role. These job description artifacts are built and required by HR but are not referenced once you are in the role and operating.
When you are the CIO, there is an expectation that anything that has a power cord is a kind of technology and that you are dedicated to supporting it. I’ve had many colleagues provide feedback to me about audio-visual systems not working. The CIO also must take some of the “heat” for business-developed applications that have been developed outside of the IT portfolio.
