Iterative data loads

Chapter 8 covers the key technical steps of data migration in detail. In the following section, we will look at some critical activities and tasks that need to be performed in each SAP Activate phase to keep the data migration iterative and Agile to support any deployment approach, from new implementations to systems conversions. Before we go through the actual methods, let’s understand some de facto SAP-provided tools for data migration:

  • The SAP S/HANA Migration cockpit is suggested for the initial data loads into your new SAP S/HANA system from your source legacy systems. The Migration cockpit facilitates the transfer of master and transaction data from source systems to target systems using pre-built migration data objects to identify and transfer the relevant data. Besides the prebuilt data objects, it contains information about the relevant source and target data structure and models and the relationships between these structures.
