The Visio Service service application allows users to load, display, and interact with Visio documents (.vsdx, .vsdm, and .vdw files). Users have the ability to publish diagrams with the Visio desktop application to the SharePoint farm.
Additionally, Visio services can refresh the following data types that are configured using the Visio application:
- SQL Server
- Excel workbooks (if the data is hosted on the same farm)
- SharePoint Server lists (if the data is hosted on the same farm)
- External lists configured through Business Connectivity Services
- OLEDB or ODBC
- Custom data providers that have been implemented as .NET Framework assemblies
This data integration allows Visio services to refresh documents automatically when they are opened.
