Inserting illustrations
In this section, we are going to learn about inserting illustrations into a Word document and explore the different types of illustrations.
Many types of graphic objects are considered as illustrations in Word. You can see them by going to the Insert tab and looking at the Illustrations section:
Under the Illustrations section, we have the following:
- Pictures: These are usually photographs or other images saved in one of many digital formats supported by Word. The most common of these are

. - Shapes: These are line drawings of various common shapes such as rectangles and ovals. Shapes are scalable and most of their outlines can be manipulated to alter their shape. Shape outlines can be colored or hidden, and shapes can usually be filled with a color or pattern.
