Configuring Neutron services

Once installed, the various plugins and agents of Neutron must be configured properly before they can be started and consumed. At this point of the installation, a decision should be made on the Neutron plugin that will be used. The neutron-server service and the neutron-dhcp-agent service at a minimum, cannot be started without specifying a networking plugin as part of their configuration.

Install the LinuxBridge and Open vSwitch plugins with the following commands on all the nodes:

# yum -y install openstack-neutron-linuxbridge
# yum -y install openstack-neutron-openvswitch

These two switching options will be discussed in further detail in Chapter 4, Building a Virtual Switching Infrastructure. However, for the sake of starting Neutron services and demonstrating the Neutron CLI in this chapter, a network configuration based on the LinuxBridge plugin will be used.
