Connecting to enterprise VSM initiatives

In this section, you'll learn how to connect traditional VSM methods with modern VSM tool applications and DevOps to support digital business transformations. You've learned throughout this book that organizations can use modern VSM tools to improve their DevOps-based software value delivery capabilities. However, organizations can and should also continue implementing traditional VSM initiatives to identify digital improvement opportunities across all other organizational value streams.

Let's look at Figure 16.2 – DevOps pipeline providing digital improvements to manufacturing pipeline flows to show how this strategy works. A traditional VSM initiative has identified three potential digital enhancements (Kaizen Bursts) within a manufacturing-oriented pipeline in this scenario. It doesn't really matter for this example as to what they might be, but they might include any of the following types of digital enhancements...
