Creating a Virtual Machine

A virtual machine can be created using vCenter. There are many GUI locations from where the wizard can be started. In this recipe, however, we will be using the VMs and templates inventory view.

Getting ready

Before you begin, it is essential to have the following information at hand:

• The desired name for the virtual machine
• Operating system type
• Number of vCPUs and the amount of memory required
• Number of hard disks and their sizes
• The amount of network interface cards you have and the networks (port groups) they need to connect to
• The name of the datastore(s) the virtual machine will be placed on
