Avoiding beginner sculpting mistakes
On your journey to master facial anatomy and likeness sculpting, you will likely have to go through some iterations until you see the results you hope for. Some skills cannot be learned in the short term by reading or even practicing, but they come through the experience of sculpting various faces. Through this process, you will get an understanding of proportions and shapes because you will begin to realize similarities and fix mistakes you previously made.
That being said, you can shorten the learning curve by checking your model for these common beginner mistakes:
- One of the more common mistakes is making the brow bone protrude too much. This creates an excessive shadow under the eyebrows, making it look wrong even in the front view. While the brow can be more pronounced in men, this is still often pushed too far.
