Introduction

In this chapter, we will continue with the The Beverage Company (TBC) sample database which we started in Chapter 2, Using Essbase Studio, with Essbase Studio, and we will conduct some of these same tasks using Essbase Integration Service (EIS). On the other hand, we will not be discussing the building of a Block Storage database in Essbase Administration Services (EAS) as these tasks are covered in Chapters 5, 6, 7, and 8.

The following is a summary of the application development steps in Essbase Studio:

  1. Prep Data Source

  2. Create Data Source Connection

  3. Create minischema, user-defined tables, and add joins

  4. Select data elements

  5. Create or modify metadata elements, date elements, and hierarchies

  6. Create alias tables

  7. Create Essbase schema and Essbase Models

  8. Set Essbase properties

  9. Build drill-through reports

  10. Deploy Essbase cubes

Building an Essbase application in EIS will require some of the same steps but these tasks can be accomplished within the OLAP Model and OLAP Metaoutline in contrast.
