Running daily, weekly, and monthly recommended tasks

By default, SCOM performs daily maintenance tasks to enable the Operations Manager database to run optimally.

In addition to these tasks, other backup tasks should be run on a periodic basis to ensure that critical SCOM features are protected. Running daily, weekly, and monthly tasks will ensure that your SCOM infrastructure is recoverable, and data loss is minimized in the event of a catastrophic failure. The following tasks should be run daily:

  • Performing an incremental backup of the operational database
  • Monitoring your Management Group health
  • Checking and remediating open alerts

Tasks that should be run weekly include the following:

  • Performing an incremental backup of the data warehouse database
  • Performing a full backup of the operational database
  • Performing an incremental backup of the Audit Collection Services (ACS) database (only if you make use of this SCOM feature)
