Migration to an online service such as SharePoint Online requires two aspects of network considerations:
- The network resources required to migrate content and applications
- The network resources required for ongoing operational activity

Planning the migration requirements
When determining the network requirements for a migration event, you'll need to have accurate information on how much data you're migrating as well as the speed at which you can migrate.
The volume question is relatively easy to surmise—you'll be tallying up file shares, home directories, intranet sites, existing SharePoint site collection data, and any other application data that will be in scope for a migration effort.
