Azure Monitoring

This is a good time to be writing about monitoring in Azure. Even a year ago, this would have been a very different content, as monitoring was scattered all over Azure, with different capabilities and usage almost service by service. Azure Monitor has changed this and become the central hub for nearly all things monitoring in Azure. Some technologies have even been rebranded and assimilated into Azure Monitor to further cement Azure Monitor’s place as the definitive monitoring entry point.

Why Monitor?

There are a large number of reasons to monitor anything, not just Azure, not just computer systems. We monitor our cars. We check the fuel gauge to know when we need to add more fuel; cars have alerts to let us know when the fuel is critically low in case we are not paying attention. We look at the oil temperature to ensure it’s not over heating. We monitor our speed to ensure we are operating within the allowed speed for the roads we are on. We look at...
