Summary
This chapter reviewed the importance of keeping your data safe by following the 3-2-1 rule for backups. We took a look at what the 3-2-1 rule is and what it means when it comes to setting up your backups. Also covered was how this rule protects you from ransomware, corrupt data, and possible data center loss. We added in the GFS rule for backups to show how you can retain your data to meet your SLA, RPO, and RTO. Considerations for the different types of media you can use and various scenarios for backups were also given.
Both Chapter 1, Installation – Best Practices and Optimizations, and this chapter covered the basics with Veeam Backup & Replication for installation, including best practices and optimization and the 3-2-1 rule for data resiliency. The next chapter, on NAS backups, starts the next section of the book on the more advanced features.
