Selecting a ControlLogix chassis

The ControlLogix chassis is where we mount the processor and cards for our industrial-grade robot bartender.

The following is a photo of a 1756-A4 four-slot chassis:

A four-slot chassis (also referred to as a rack) is the smallest size that is sold as part of the ControlLogix platform. To create our robot bartender, we will use all four slots. However, any size rack will work for our purposes. For a test lab setup such as this, the larger the rack you can get, the better. However, if you plan to mount the rack inside a cabinet, you need to ensure it is of an appropriate size for the installation you have in mind.

The following chassis backplane sizes are available in the ControlLogix standard family:

  • 1756-A4 four-slot rack
  • 1756-A7 seven-slot rack
  • 1756-A10 10-slot rack
  • 1756-A13 13-slot rack
  • 1756-A17 17-slot rack
