Understanding MongoDB Compass

There are three versions of MongoDB Compass available, all open source and free to use:

• Compass: In the past year, the company producing MongoDB decided to make available a full-featured version for all versions of MongoDB, including Community Edition.
• Compass Readonly: Designed to provide the ability to generate ad hoc reports by querying the database. This version has write functionality disabled, encouraging companies to allow administrators to perform direct queries without harming the database. 
• Compass Isolated: Designed for high-security environments. 

The discussion in this section focuses on the full version, simply called Compass or MongoDB Compass.
