Summary
In this chapter, we focused on the benefit measurement and realization phase of the DevOps 360° operating model. Initially, we explained its vital value proposition for the DevOps 360° evolution, also outlining the importance of fulfilling the DevOps equilibrium and 360° qualities during the process. We next provided arguments on why the mainstream way of measuring and realizing benefits is not sufficient and why a more sophisticated approach is required. Inspired by the industry’s misunderstandings and misconceptions, we moved on to providing clarity on the difference between a KPT and a metric, as well as the difference between a proof of success and an indicator of success. Focus was put on the importance of engaging the broad DevOps stakeholder ecosystem to elicit their desire around what to measure by also supplementing it with a practice that always works.
