In 2015, the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) introduced the first major revision of the HTTP standard since HTTP 1.1 was codified in 1997. This new protocol, now named HTTP/2, introduces a number of extension features on top of the existing HTTP 1.1 protocol definition, while leaving the expected behavior of the previous standard almost entirely unchanged.
