Summary

In this chapter, we have seen what the impact is of not following the performance recommendations and why there is a set of best practices and things we should avoid when implementing our own custom view. We have also seen how to improve or optimize a code for performance and how to tweak or customize a view to render a preview on the Android Studio IDE preview window.

As we will see in the next chapter, whether our custom view is used by other people or even by ourselves shouldn't make a difference. It should not make the application using it crash or misbehave because of it. Like including a third-party library, it should never crash our application, as otherwise, we will most probably stop using it and replace it with another library.

So, in the next chapter, we will not only see how to apply these recommendations, but also how to make our custom view reusable...
