Adding Doors and Windows to the project
- Now that we have modeled the basic structure for our first project, we need to add some joinery to our Walls to let the light in and allow access to all rooms. Before we can start using tools for Windows and Doors, we should have a clear idea about the key entities in any Building Information Modeling (BIM) created inside Archicad.
Knowing the key BIM entities and their relationships
Archicad, as a BIM authoring tool, has three key entities that can be modeled:
- Elements: This type of entity has a clear definition but no real limits to its dimensions. For example, a Wall is built up a certain way (layers of materials), but neither its length, width, height, nor actual shape are predefined. We have already learned how to model crucial elements for any building with the Wall, Slab, and Roof tools. In this chapter, we will gain a degree of design freedom by modeling with the Morph tool.
