So far in this book, we have loaded data from flat files—Excel spreadsheets, CSV files, Spotfire Binary Data Format files, and more. Obviously, the real world has many more data sources than flat files! The majority of data you will come across will be stored in a database, warehouse, data lake, or big data system. Spotfire connects to all of these and more!
In this chapter, we'll be covering Spotfire's information links and data connectors. Information links allow you to build abstraction layers over databases; connectors allow you to connect directly to databases and other data sources.
