Creating walls and floors by tracing an AutoCAD plan
In this chapter, we will be working on a SketchUp model with an imported AutoCAD drawing (review Chapter 4 for how to import a DWG/DXF file). The drawing is a commercial project, a coffee and lounge space with a mezzanine level. We will start by tracing over the CAD drawing two-dimensionally and then create three-dimensional elements.
The Chapter 5 practice file includes an image of the CAD plan to use as a reference for items that were not imported to SketchUp, such as dimensions. There is also an imported CAD drawing. The drawing came in as a component, which is locked so it cannot accidentally be edited. As another reference for you, we have kept the imported CAD layers but put them in a tag folder named CAD PLAN
