Extending to the portfolio
A portfolio is more than a collection of programs. It is the unit responsible for linking strategy to execution. The portfolio team translates mission and vision into strategic themes and lightweight business cases for epics through which the themes are realized. But extending Jira Align to the portfolio level traditionally comes later in an enterprise implementation after several successful programs are up and running.
For years, the Jira Align implementation roadmap has closely followed that of the leading framework it supports, SAFe, beginning with the establishment of the core leadership team who are not only bought in, but drive the transformation day to day. From there, programs (teams of teams) are identified, trained, and onboarded in Jira Align where they refine their backlogs and prepare for quarterly planning (PI planning if following SAFe).
