Polishing the animation
Figuring out the timing of thousands of keyframes is an iterative process with interrelating factors. At first, we keyed our initial poses based on broad, sometimes arbitrary decisions about what things ought to happen and when. Continuing with our work, the timing of additional keyframes was determined by the ones we had already made, and so forth.
Finally, we’ve reached a stage at which we can refine the motion of individual bones, smoothing-out their motion in some places and/or adding detail in others. We’ll also key some bones that, as yet, have remained untouched.
Tip
Along with the other two guidelines we’ve learned, I’ve one remaining bit of advice for this part of the exercise: nothing is sacred! As you work, delete any unnecessary keyframes that seem to get in the way, and don’t be afraid to edit any keyframe you want, even if it breaks apart those long columns for key poses.
Let’s begin by paying...
