Understanding Cloud SQL
Given the name, it won't be a major surprise to hear that Cloud SQL is a database service that makes it easy to set up, maintain, and manage your relational PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server database on Google Cloud.
Although we are provisioning the underlying instances, it is a fully managed service that is capable of handling up to 64 TB of storage. Cloud SQL databases are relational, which means that they are organized into tables, rows, and columns. As an alternative, we can install the SQL Server application image onto a Compute Engine instance, but Cloud SQL offers many benefits that come from being fully managed by Google – for example, scalability, patching, and updates are applied automatically, automated backups are provided, and it offers HA out-of-the-box.
