Time for action—sound sculpting in Audacity
We're going to explore how to get the most out of our samples by using Audacity to edit, process, and design them:
- Open Audacity.
- Go to File | Save Project As.
- Save as
Sampling Session 1
. - Audacity may give you a screen that says something similar to the following screenshot:
This window simply states that this project will only be able to be read by Audacity. If you want to export this project to another program such as Pro Tools, Logic, and so on, you need to use the Export command from the File menu. For now, we're just going to say OK.
- Go to http://ccmixter.org/view/media/samples/browse.
- In the Samples Browser on the left-hand side, choose the category 80s:
- Locate the song called Caffeine Love Affair.
- Listen to the drum pattern from this song by clicking on the speaker, as shown in the following screenshot:
- Now download the drums track by right-clicking on the downward facing triangle next to the drum sample in the browser, and choosing...
