Bot Building

In this chapter, we have a task cut out to build a Wi-Fi-controlled robotic car. It will not just move forwards and backwards, but will also make left and right turns. Additionally, you will also be able to control the speed of the car using pulse-width modulation (PWM). So, let's build the bot.

We need the following hardware components to build the car:

  • Car chassis (toy car)
  • Two DC motors
  • Four plastic tires (to be fitted with DC motor and car chassis)
  • L293D motor driver IC
  • LEDs (6 to 8 pcs)
  • Battery bank

The following topics are covered in the chapter:

  • Pulse-width modulation
  • Wiring up the bot
  • Executing the commands

Since we have already used DC motor, L293D IC, and LEDs in Chapter 5, Controlling the Pi, we will not go through them in detail again. We will concentrate on building the car structure and programming part.
