Service availability – on-premises versus cloud
As covered in previous chapters, operating in a cloud environment has nuances and sometimes can be very different from building and managing your infrastructure in a proprietary data center. When you build your data center infrastructure, you will have to hire for a wide range of skills. Your physical data center and infrastructure team may be as large – if not larger – than your development team.
You’ll have to hire folks to work through the real-estate portion of the project, identifying potential geographies for where the data center could be located. Once a location has been established, you may need to build out the data center itself. This would mean construction crews building the warehouse, implementing the appropriate power and cooling systems, and installing the racks that will house the servers.
