Summary

In this section, we looked at how to add metrics and tracing into an application using the OpenTelemetry library. Having this observability in an application will enable us to troubleshoot issues faster and also keep track of the performance of our application from the provided metrics. We also took a look at using two different open source projects that allow us to look at the data collected from our application.

In this chapter, we looked at the plumbing and infrastructure required to monitor and trace our application. In the next chapter, we will look at different aspects of building both dynamic and static content for our web application and how to package the application to make it easier to deploy anywhere.
