Summary
This chapter explained at length the concepts of industrialization and standardization and then explained how they can be applied to the field of software and computer science. Lots of information systems nowadays have difficulty evolving, as stated in the previous chapter, and industrialization, though a recent field in computer science, is a way to strongly improve their efficiency.
In the next chapter, we are going to get a bit more practical, starting from the – admittedly theoretical – material in this chapter, and explain methods to put the industrial approach in place in information systems. The most known approach that will be presented is called “business/IT alignment.” In a few words, it states that the structure of IT must reflect the structure of the business processes the information system is there to help.
