Introducing storage
As with both compute and networking, storage is supported by the servers and the storage spaces directly via ReFS. Above this is the storage resource provider and above this is the storage account. As with the others, this is all controlled by the Azure Storage Resource Provider, as shown in the following diagram:
The Microsoft Azure Stack Hub storage stack consists of the following components:
- Storage Spaces
- Software Storage Bus
- Servers with local disks
Microsoft Storage Spaces Direct provides a single scalable pool with all disk devices except for the boot drive. Multiple virtual disks are created per pool and mirrored across the servers.
The Software Storage Bus provides the storage bus cache and leverages SMB3 and SMB Direct.
