Prepping for your environment is essential to completing a successful pentest. Just like knowing the unknown, it's essential that you have everything in order with you and your team and everyone is on the same page with how the pentest is supposed to be executed. It's always good to have a checklist on hand before the pentest and ensure that all the questions have been answered. Having all your questions answered ensures that nothing is left undone or unanswered before a pentest starts.
