Exploring policies and regulations
Policies and regulations are determined by governments and their institutes. Although it differs for each country or region, it is possible to recognize certain elements, whether a national health service, such as the NHS in the UK, municipal, as in Finland, or regulated to some extent via insurance companies, as in a lot of countries in the European Union, or via the employer, as practiced in the US.
Policies and regulations set the guardrails for the development of solutions. Hence, we need to start with this. There’s no escaping or working around policies and regulations – we simply have to deal with them. In this section, we will explore policies, regulations, principles, and the various stakeholders that have to work with these rules of engagement in healthcare.
