Chapter 4. Storage Design
No other facet of a Hyper-V Server failover cluster has as many possibilities and variations as shared storage. The hardware options alone seem nearly limitless. Once you've settled on a hardware platform, you'll find that it has its own plethora of configurations. Unfortunately, there is no single right way to set up your storage. You can, however, make well-informed decisions that will result in a storage solution that meets the needs of your deployment.
Storage design and maintenance should be considered an ongoing endeavor, not something to be deployed and forgotten. You can connect Hyper-V Server hosts and clusters to multiple storage points, and Storage Live Migration allows you to relocate virtual machines from one storage location to another without interrupting operations. This allows you to dynamically adapt to changing needs and to relocate under- or over-provisioned loads to more suitable hardware.
